The Latest & Greatest in Australian Hotels

04 Aug 2021 Travel Tips

Whether you’re heading across the river or across the state, Australian cities have been graced with an abundance of fresh and exciting new hotels lately. No longer does an adventure mean trekking into the great outdoors, head into the city instead and explore these delightful new properties.

Crown - Sydney

The new Crown Hotel in Sydney styles itself as a ‘sanctuary by the harbour’, and we can see why. Taking luxury accommodation to the next level, the stunning and spacious towers are nestled in the heart of Barangaroo and designed to cater to your every need. Soak up the view from the Skydeck or unwind with the facials, massages, nail and wellness packages at Crown Spa. At the end of your day, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to dinner - will it be Silks for opulent Cantonese, a’Mare for Italian, Woodcut for modern Australian or Nobu for Japanese? Don’t forget Epicurean for a buffet-style feast!

Mӧvenpick - Hobart

Mӧvenpick Hobart is one of our favourites for one big reason: chocolate. Having strong Swiss origins, the hotel dedicates an hour every afternoon to all things chocolate - including chocolate cocktails! Aside from that, Mӧvenpick Hobart is perfectly situated. Guests can explore the Hobart waterfront, shop the day away at the eclectic Salamanca Precinct or take a gorgeous ferry trip up the Derwent River to the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). After that, revel in the luscious and locally-sourced fare at Tesoro Modern Italian and finish with a nightcap from their range of Tasmanian beers, wines and spirits.

W - Melbourne

Hidden away in Flinders Lane is the W Hotel, developed by hotelier masters Marriott International. Talk about location! The W is as central as central gets, right amid the celebrated Flinders Lane shoppers’ paradise. It’s also just a hop, skip and a jump from the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Melbourne Emporium, Queen Victoria Market, the Melbourne Museum and Flinders Street station to access the rest of the city. The W itself boasts a state-of-the-art gym and pool, plus ultra-modern, quirky, colourful and design-forward spaces at every corner. Don’t forget to check out Lollo, Culprit and Warabi for dining, or WET bar for poolside drinks with panoramic views over Melbourne. And did we mention the W is pet-friendly?

Hotel X - Brisbane

Hotel X calls itself a ‘24-hour feast for your senses in the beating heart of Brisbane’, and we think that’s spot-on. One of the new additions to the Brisbane skyline, it houses two incredible restaurants - the contemporary and beautifully-designed French Bisou Bisou and the Mediterranean Iris on the rooftop. If that’s not enough, Hotel X is located close to all the nightlife down on the Howard Smith Wharves, replete with eclectic bars and live music spots. Chinatown is also close by if the need for dim sum strikes, and there’s even an in-hotel nanny service if you’d prefer to leave the little ones. After all that wining and dining, check out the rooftop pool and inhouse gym - they really have thought of everything!

Crystalbrook Kingsley - Newcastle

Last but certainly not least on our list is a new addition to the Crystalbrook family: Crystalbrook Kingsley. This gem in Newcastle stands for sophistication and ‘cultural connection’, and its inherently tranquil design and colour scheme will help you get some good old fashioned R&R. As the first 5-star hotel in the city, you’re sure to find everything you’d hope for. Crystalbrook Kingsley also hosts Roundhouse, Newcastle’s newest rooftop restaurant showcasing divine locally-produced food. If coffee is more your vibe, you’ve got the deli-style Ms Mary, or if you’re in the mood for a cocktail you won’t go wrong at Rombergs.
