Love beer? We've tracked down the best craft breweries in Australia!

Getting Crafty

29 Jul 2021 Travel Tips
No matter where you go on your travels around Australia, you’re bound to find a local brew that appeals to you! Here are five of our favourite local craft breweries.

Adelaide - Pirate Life

Pirate Life has been an Adelaide staple since 2014, when the founders travelled from Perth to build their ambitious brewery on a site that used to store spare air conditioning parts. Now located in the heart of Port Adelaide, the brewery delivers a 12-strong core range plus an impressive count of limited release brews showcasing flavours from hot cross bun to mango lassi! Food comes from both a food truck and an onsite fire pit - and did we mention it’s dog-friendly?

Melbourne - Moon Dog

Moon Dog’s original premises located in Abbotsford are a revelation for those seeking something a little different. With a range spanning from ‘stouts to sours and everything in between’ packed in crazy artistic cans and bottles, an extensive pizza menu and an onsite bottle shop, no visitor will be disappointed. A short drive from the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Melbourne Park, it’s worth dropping in if you’re in town for a footy weekend or trip to the tennis.

Perth - Running With Thieves

Off to an auspicious start thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Running With Thieves is finally open now in Fremantle, WA. The new kid on the block is all about producing inhouse and sourcing locally as much as possible. Since the summer of 2020, they’ve been ‘brewing and distilling’ an ‘evolving range of beer and spirits including gin, vodka, whiskey and rum’, so you’re sure to find something you like! While you’re there, wander around the eccentric coastal community of Fremantle or hop on over to Rottnest Island to check out the unique wildlife.

Darwin - One Mile Brewery

If you’re in the Top End, an ice-cold beer is always a good idea. At One Mile Brewing Co in Darwin, you’ll find a kolsch, a bright ale, a red ale and a pink lady cider year-round. Seasonally, you might find the Belgian-style wheat beer, the No Limits IPA, a locally-sourced ginger beer and an alcoholic pink lemonade too! While in Darwin, you’ll of course want to check out the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, explore Litchfield National Park and discover the booming contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts scene.

Sydney - 4 Pines Brewing

Last but not least, Sydney’s 4 Pines brewery, where eight is the magic number! With eight bars and breweries, you’ll find a 4 Pines close by wherever you’re staying in Sydney. There are eight delicious beers in the core range and eight funky small batch beers in the ‘Keller Door’ range. Fun fact - they recently collaborated with Ben & Jerrys on a chocolate-chip cookie dough inspired nitro beer! You can feel good while you sip, too - 4 Pines is a certified sustainable business!
