Majestic Princess, the newest addition to the Princess Cruises fleet, set sail on her maiden voyage earlier this year. Beginning in Europe and then making her way east, she eventually made it to Tokyo (Yokohama), where myself and eight Travellers Choice agents embarked on our seven-night cruise.
Stepping into the Atrium of Majestic Princess is an experience in itself. The marble-floored Piazza is flanked by two spiralling staircases that lead your eyes up to a unique ocean-inspired chandelier and the golden finishes make for a truly stunning centrepiece on this cruise ship.
Not only is it beautiful, but the Atrium is always buzzing with activity – from dance lessons to late night parties complete with balloon drops, there is always something happening. There are multiple places to relax on the three levels that surround the Piazza, including the Bellini’s bar (a must-try whilst onboard) and the Ocean Terrace Juice Bar, so if you don’t feel like joining the party you can simply spectate with a drink in hand!
There are over a dozen restaurants, cafés and bars to choose from onboard Majestic Princess, including five specialty dining venues, a delicious pizza joint, and the World Fresh Marketplace – a smorgasbord of East-meets-West food stations which offer dishes from around the globe. French crêpes, Asian noodles and German sausages are just some of what’s on offer!
Without doubt, the best meal I had onboard was at Harmony – the Cantonese specialty restaurant which was created in partnership with a Michelin star awarded chef – and I would highly recommend dining here whilst onboard, if you get the chance. My favourite dishes were the duck and mushroom soup and the pork belly.
Although slightly smaller than other Princess ships, the Majestic Princess’ staterooms are comfortable and tastefully furnished. I also found the bathroom to be more spacious than that of some other cruise lines I have sailed with, which was a big plus.
With capacity for 3,560 guests and 1,346 crew, you would be forgiven for thinking the cruise ship would feel crowded. However, there was rarely an occasion during our time onboard where we were unable to find our own space in one of the public areas.
If you are looking for some serious relaxation you can escape to the Hollywood Conservatory – a garden paradise above the sea, featuring the sounds of nature, artistically crafted topiaries, a giant chess board and 180° views of the ocean. When you’re ready to re-join the party you can test your knowledge with an afternoon quiz at Princess Live!, catch a movie on the big screen located on the Lido Deck, or have a go at mini-golf on the Sky Deck. Of course, these are just some of the vast selection of activities to choose from.
I had a wonderful experience onboard Majestic Princess and can’t wait for her arrival in Australia in September 2018!
