Places to travel with your grandchildren

18 Apr 2016 Angela Matthews Family, Travel Tips

Travelling with kids can be tricky at the best of times, so choosing your destination wisely is absolutely critical. For grandparents keen to get away with their family, it’s important to go where getting around is easy, and there’s plenty to keep the kids occupied. However, it’s not simply about having fun; travel helps kids’ development, exposing them to new locations and cultures they’d otherwise only see through a screen.

Below are three USA destinations that make educational and fun holiday spots, perfect for grandparents and kids.

Orlando, Florida

Home of Disneyworld, Orlando is a sprawling 25,000 acre area, comprising multiple theme parks and resorts. It is the ultimate destination for fun. Plus, there’s the famous Universal Orlando park, which features an entire Harry Potter-themed park which is sure to be a hit with the kids!

Honolulu, Hawaii

Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii, and has been built from the ground-up as a family friendly destination. Multiple beachfront hotels and resorts provide an assortment of activities, meaning grandparents and kids can spend time together and apart, in a safe environment.

In addition to the sun and surf, there are plenty of landmarks and cultural sites to visit, quite unlike anything the kids will have ever seen before.

New York City, New York

New York is a city for all ages, and there’s a wealth of things to do and sights to see for kids and grandparents alike. Best of all, most won’t come close to breaking the bank! Some of the world’s best museums are at your fingertips, with admission costs ranging from nothing to around $25. This includes the American Museum of Natural History (with its famous Hayden Planetarium) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Central Park is always great to explore, with biking in the summer and ice-skating in the winter. Just a few blocks south, you’ll find the Theatre District, with a dozen or more Broadway shows for the whole family. Smack in the middle of all that is the Toys R Us International flagship store, complete with a Ferris wheel inside!
