Arriving in Andalucian Seville on a sunny autumn day introduces you to a polished and historic city that is brushed with vibrant colours of tradition and shining with the patina of a well-worn welcome. The sevillanos are out and about, shopping like maniacs and snacking like it's an Olympic sport.
Modern Seville is all bustle and business (until it's time to stop for lunch) and the view from the streets shows architectural lines that cut and curve and spring up between classic buildings. Romans, Moors and the glory of Spain’s colonial history are etched into stones here. And the same aroma from times gone by scents the air in Seville with the fragrance of oil, garlic, hot bread and sweet sugary hints. Some things never change.
Seville is the capital city of Andalusia. Located in the South of Spain, Seville, or Sevilla in Spanish, is one of the largest Spanish cities with over 700,000 inhabitants. The city occupies the valley of the Guadalquivir river; with 60 navigable kilometres, it was an important harbour during the Spanish conquest of the American continent. Silver and gold from the New World arrived at Seville along the river and were distributed throughout the country from here.
The city of Seville is famous worldwide for its culture, monuments, traditions and artistic heritage. This is the birthplace of flamenco and the city where the most amazing Easter processions take place. But Seville is also the neuralgic centre of the South of Spain; a city full of life and possibilities.
